DAY OF THE VALENCIAN COMMUNITY

This Sunday, October 9, is a very special day in Valencia; the day of the Valencian Community (the region that includes the provinces of Valencia, Castellón and Alicante) is celebrated.

This day in 1238 King James I the Conqueror entered the city of Valencia, ending the reign of the Arab King Abdul Djumayl Zayyan, and 100 years later in 1338, he began the procession of commemoration, which is nearly being realized in an uninterrupted form over hundreds of years now in Valencia.

It is also a tribute to the Valencian flag, the “Senyera”, the symbol of the community.

Currently there are many events held during the 9th of October, like parades, processions, floral offerings, entrance of Moors and Christians through the streets of the city, fireworks…

If you are in town, use the opportunity and learn more about the valencian culture and do not miss any of the events planned in the city.

Subsequent we will go more into detail of the program, containing the official events including advises like not missing the fireworks on Saturday night (midnight) and the parade of the Moors and Christians on Sunday afternoon with hundreds of participants, all dressed in costumes appropriate to the period of recapture. Sure you’ll love it!
