We are going to Denia to celebrate one of the most fun festivals of the season : Bulls in the Sea! This is a popular festival where the bulls and the participants finsih in the sea. THE ANIMALS ARE NOT HARMED IN ANY WAY. The city is in party mode with music and dancing , firework shows and float parades, parties and concerts. And all of this in summer with the heat, the blue sea and the white sandy beach.

Denia is a small and picteresque city, halfway between Valencia and Alicante, a popular place for holidays and with one of the best beaches in Spain, the pearl of the Costa Blanca. This is a charming old town with numerous restaurants, the main street lined with palm trees, an ancient fortress on a hill and one of the largest ports on the coast, with regular routes to Ibiza and Mallorca.
The festivals in Spain are an integral part of life for the people of the country. The Spanish are charming, loveable, hospitable and always ready to welcome you. No country in Europe has as many festivals as Spain. The main festivals come from religious traditions but over time they have become joyful celebrations of singing and dancing.
During the second week of July Denia celebrates its festival - The Bulls in the Sea - in honour of the patron of the city and in memory of the monk Pedro Esteve who according to legend, in 1633 saved the city from the plague.
The bull forms an essential part of Spanish festivals. They embody the characater of the spansih, who appreciate the beauty, the determination, the courage, and the capacity to control the situation in any circumstance.
In the Denia port they built the Plaza de toros 'Square of the bulls' which has access to the sea on one side. The young bulls enter the arena and the contestants draw them into the water. More often than not the contestants are in the water with the bulls. Later, using a lasso thrown off the ship, the bulls come ashore. It's very fun for everyone to watch. The spectacle takes place in the sand in the harbour. After the bulls run down the main street, Marqués de Campo, everyone can participate in a unique competition that involving agility and speed, trying to dodge the bulls. You can always escape by jumping into the sea from the promenade, The festival is very popular among the Spanish and animal lovers, because the animals are not harmed in any way. The highlught of this festival is an unforgettable spectacle, Correfoc - the pyrotechnic show of light and fire throughout the city streets, with the Carrozas procession - the cars are adorned with ribbons and flowers, and everything that's going on is accompanied by music and dancing!
During the week there are concerts by famous artists, shows, parties in the city streets all in accordance with an elaborate program of events.
