San Juan Night is one of the most magical nights of the year in Valencia. Every June 23rd, thousands of people head to the beach to celebrate the summer solstice with bonfires, music, and tradition. For Erasmus students, this is an unmissable Valencia experience — and Happy Erasmus has your night covered!
La Noche de San Juan (St. John's Eve) is a pagan tradition dating back centuries, celebrating the arrival of summer and the shortest night of the year. People light bonfires on the beach, jump over the flames to ward off evil spirits, and take a ritual dip in the sea at midnight for good luck. In Valencia, it's one of the biggest beach parties of the year.

RITUALS FOR A MAGICAL NIGHT:
- Jump over the fire seven times and make a wish while you jump, so you have protection all year round.
- Bathing on the beach at twelve at night. The ritual says that you have to jump seven waves on your back and make a wish when you finish. For the previous two, if you do them with your partner holding hands, your happiness will be complete. - Play the guitar by the bonfire seven songs before nightfall.
- If you go looking for a clover that night and you are lucky enough to find it, the following things may happen to you: if it has two leaves, it will attract a lover; if it is three, it will serve as an amulet; of four, it will bring you wealth and love; of five, it will be a very powerful amulet to attract wealth.
- If your priority is to find love, light two red candles in your bedroom and that night write your name and that of the person you want to attract on a piece of paper.
- If your problem is not that you can't find love but that you have several suitors and you don't know which one to choose, fill a basin with water and put it under your bed. In it he deposits, folded, a piece of paper with the name of each one of them. Tradition says that the next morning you will find the paper open with the name of the person you should keep in mind.
- Making a cross on the trees at midnight with a special person makes the promises made with that person last a lifetime.
- On a surface covered with a red cloth, place seven red candles so that they burn safely. When you turn on each one, think that you attract these seven virtues: energy, magnetism, passion, love, courage, prosperity and protection. Write these seven things on a piece of paper and wrap a photo of yourself in it. Let the candles burn until the end. Make an envelope with the paper, take the leftover wax, put it in the envelope and also place your photo.
