We are going to know the "Fiestas of Alicante", very similar to the Fallas of Valencia but in summer! Party, beach, powder, fire... These days the party is through the streets and you can be part of it! And we will visit the Pink Lake as well ;)

We are going to visit 2 wonders in the province of Alicante: the emblematic Launa Rosa and the festivities of Alicante.

Summer is coming and so is the Alicante Festival!

We will leave Valencia in the morning to go direct to Torrevieja to visit the Pink Lake and then we will arrive in Alicante with time to be able to enjoy all the incredible activities and return to Valencia after partying.

This is an unforgettable event and a crazy festival so come with us to Alicante!

We will start with a stop at Pink Lake, a spectacular lake of pink waters that can not miss in your instagram :-p

It is a lake with a very high salt content that makes it an extreme environment where bacteria (harmless) give this characteristic and unique pink color.

And then we will go directly to Alicante.

Alicante has a six day long festival which is the most important in the city. From the 19th June the streets and squares will be filled with incredible giant figures made of cardboard and wood and on the night of the 24th June they are burnt and accomapnied by fireworks. The figures that decorate the streets are based on real people such as politicians, and are very similar to those seen in the Valencian festival Las Fallas.

We'll spend the day enjoying this magnificent festival with the people of Alicante.
We'll also visit the Santa Barbara castle, see the giant figurines, enjoy the fireworks! As well we will have time to stay on the beach, have sun and bath.

At the end of June, Alicante celebrates its most important festival called Hogueras de San Juan (the fires of Saint Juan). This festival is one of the oldest in the world and has been happening since pagan times in many countries and cultures. It's part of the summer solstice which is celebrated on the 21st June and on this day the whole world lights fires to add strength to the sun because the day after the sun succumbs to winter and the days are shorter and the nights get longer. This happens on different days in different countries.

The festival has been celebrated for a long time and the local farmers harvest on the the longest day in the year and light fires in the evening to ward off evil and celebrate the harvest. There is music, wine, fires on the beach and young people dancing around the fires.

During this public holiday week Alicante doesn't sleep because it would be impossible. Nobody is at work and there are parades around the city. Each street has stalls with food and drink and the music starts at 8 in the morning and doesn't stop until 6am the following day meaning only two hours to relax and recuperate! There are fireworks everywhere! Each year they choose the most beautiful girl in Alicante to be the Queen of the festival - La Bellea del Foc. It's the best festival and party of the year!
