MURCIA, CARTAGENA and LA MANGA DEL MAR MENOR



            An incredible weekend on the beaches in la Manga del Mar Menor and getting to see Murcia and Cartagena!


   Day one: Cartagena y Murcia
           
Cartagena is one of the cities in Spain with the most history, 
founded on prehistoric settlements, it was the capital of the Kingdom and was founded by the famous Carthaginian Hannibal and it's where it the elephants departed from to enter Italy in the Second Punic War (218 BC).

During the Roman Era it was the third most important city in Spain and we'll visit its museum and the Roman Theatre ​​in which we'll find the ruins of the Cathedral 'Santa María La Vieja'

​Cartagena is an important fishing and commercial cntre and a naval base. The natural bay and lakes make the coast of Cartagena the ideal place for the port where the welcome all types of boats. Throughout history many people have tried to rule this important city with a strategically placed port.


   


​After our visit in Cartagena we'll continue the trip to Murcia ​where we'll spend the night. The city of Murcia is the capital of the region with Muslim origins. We'll see the Cathedral and we'll have a guided visit of the old city.

​Murcia was founded by the Arabs in 825 on an old Roman site. The Mursiyya Medina, originally belonged to the Caliphate of Córdoba, and later the independent Arab kingdom. In the eighteenth century the city experienced a new flourishing, as evidenced by the numerous architectural monuments of the Baroque era. The Arab heritage is represented in the city in the fortress Castillo de Monteagudo from the eleventh century, and also in the remains of the walls and narrow winding streets with small patios.
