Chelva, Peña Cortada and the Water Route

This time Happy Erasmus Valencia will take you to one of the selected hiking routes that we have for you.

It's an easy route for everyone where we will walk 12 kilometers on the nature, enjoying the landscapes and spectacular surroundings and a large part of History.



We will cross a Roman aqueduct and tunnels excavated by the Romans 2000 years ago. We will also travel in time to cross the Jewish and Arab neighborhoods of the small village of Chelva.

An aqueduct is a fabulous work of engineering designed to transfer a constant flow of water from one place to another. When contemplating it, you have to imagine the amount of technical difficulties and the incredible effort that should have been made for a construction like this and even more if you think of the remote place where it is located in the mountains.

It is considered the third most important Roman aqueduct in the Iberian Peninsula, and undoubtedly the most outstanding Roman engineering work of the Valencian Community. It is cataloged and protected as well of cultural interest.



The village of Chelva is a clear example of the beautiful villages of the region, inhabited since the Neolithic era became very important in the Muslim era. As in other important Spanish settlements, in Chelva, the three great cultures of our civilization, Muslims, Jews and Christians, lived peacefully and in an atmosphere of tolerance until the seventeenth century. Walking through its streets we will contemplate its Jewish and Arab neighborhoods where time seems almost to have stopped.



During this beautiful route we will go up and down, viewpointss and tunnels. We will cross rivers by bridges, stones and a Roman aqueduct of the first century. On the way we will pause to recover and hydrate ourselves and we will eat together in a fresh picnic area by the river.

It will be a day of sport exercise and nature, to make many new friends and have a great time !!
