The city of Teruel has its own legend of Romeo and Juliet. The heart of the story is the love of two young people - Isabel de Segura and Diego de Marcilla, who lived in the 12th century - based on true events.

The love story of Isabel and Diego is as sad as it is beautiful: the young people loved each other dearly and dreamed of getting married. However, the girl's parents had their own ideas about marriage. They dreamed of a financially successful husband for his daughter and put a condition on the boy: for five years to win the fortune so that he could marry his daughter. But just on the last day of the established 5-year term, Isabel was married to a nobleman from Teruel. Diego returned to the city the same day, found out about the wedding and died of grief and sadness. The next day Isabel, so unhappy, died on the spot when she saw Diego's tomb.

The young lovers were buried together and the people of Teruel decided to immortalize their memory, building a mausoleum in honor of the couple. There, on the alabaster and bronze sarcophagi are sculptures of lovers holding hands.
Today you can visit the Mausoleum of Los Amantes de Teruel, which apart from the sarcophagus has many more interesting things.

In honor of this history, the ISABEL'S WEDDING (BODAS DE ISABEL) festivities are celebrated every year and we have a great opportunity to enjoy them on this trip!
